I am going to show you how to retrieve your widgets after you have changed your template. In blogger after you change your template your widgets get deleted unless you are switching to a classic template. Here is how to recover them.
As you all know downloading the whole template does not save your widgets it justs saves their position so don't bother with that.
Backing up widgets
First of all if you want to backup your widgets before changing your template open your homepage or any page in a browser.
Then go to view and view the page source
Copy the whole code and paste it in notepad and save it.
By doing this you also save some of your template code which you can retrieve in case your template is deleted by mistake
Retrieving widgets
If you have already changed your template your code is not lost forever, just go to google and search for your most recent post
Below the title and the description you will see cached link, click on it.
It will take you to your webpage the last time google accessed it.
Go to view and then click on page source and then copy the whole code to notepad and you are all set.
If your site is not indexed by google then your last resort will be to try internet archive wayback machine, just input your site url and they search for it and you will be able to access the cache from there.
Very interesting posts. The only thing I would like to know is what's next? I have copied my page source to a note pad. Now I have changed my template and want to recover my widgets. How do I do that?
ReplyDeleteThanks...
OK once you have the source all you have to do is search for the widget code. For example if you want to get your adsense code just search for the word adsense until you find the widget code then copy it.
